MarkScout supports Europol-led Operation In Our Sites against counterfeit and piracy domains

Industry intelligence helps law enforcement prioritise sites for seizure

London, UK: January 9, 2026 – MarkScout has again provided industry intelligence to Operation In Our Sites, the international campaign coordinated by Europol and partner authorities to seize domain names used to sell counterfeit goods and distribute pirated content.

The operation has a long record. A 2017 edition seized more than 20,500 domain names, and in 2019 Europol reported 30,506 domains shut down in a single round, along with large quantities of counterfeit clothing and perfume.

Law enforcement agencies can only act on a case that is documented to a high standard. MarkScout contributes evidence packages that identify the sites, link them to shared infrastructure and operators, and describe the harm to consumers, so investigators can concentrate on seizures rather than on research.

“When brands, platforms and police share what they see, one investigation can take down hundreds of sites that would take years to remove one by one,” says Daniel Hartley, Chief Revenue Officer at MarkScout.
